BBC hypes BBC shock

Is it just me, or is anyone else fed up with all the hype ahead  of the BNP leader Nick Griffin's appearance on BBC TV's Question Time programme tonight? There is wall-to-wall coverage on the BBC's 24-hour News Channel. Anyone would think they had an interest in getting high viewing figures. (Sky News seems to be ignoring it but  went into similar overdrive when it was calling for a televised  election debate between the political party leaders).
Some newspapers are also hyping the Question Time programme -- see The Times today-- and giving Griffin tonnes of  the oxygen of publicity. He must be loving all the attention.
True, it is a landmark moment. True, under the Broadcasting Act the BBC would have to recognise  the BNP had won seats in the European Parliament by giving it airtime at  the general election. Some BBC insiders argue that it is be better to get the BNP's Question Time appearance out of the way now rather than in the heat of an election battle, when it might help them more. I'm not sure. We'll see how the programme goes later but I wonder whether Question Time is the right one in which to subject the BNP's policies to proper scrutiny. I would have preferred a forensic interview by Jeremy Paxman or John Humphrys.

our furry friends outside the beeb don't give an airborne intercourse for racism or whatever, they just fancy a ruck - it's fun to push and shout at the old bill; they just love it

They (the BBC) are milking it for everything it's got. I would not be surprised to see Question Time up against ITVs X Factor this Sat in the ratings war.

Of course all these daft "Hain - BBC might end up in court" and "Livingstone - it will cause extra violence", etc., etc. are all just adding to the BNP PR. I bet the BNP will never have had so many viewers after all the hype.

Best thing in my opinion is to ignore them. It is going to happen (it always was going to happen at some point_ so deprive the BNP of all the publicity, don't give them the "people are trying to restrict our freedom of speech" - and just ignore them. Even the other guests and audience could just ignore the guy. They don't deserve a platform but Labour's running things over the last 12 years or so mean they now have elected people and have been brought into/closer to the mainstream. Had Labour managed things better we would not have to endure this ***** party (the BNP that is).
